Laima and John Hood short history of collecting:

We began collecting in 1991 after attending the Folk Art Institute and after acquired some knowledge about American Folk Art.
We took two major trips through the South. One in 1991 and the second in 1993. Starting in Maryland we continued south to Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana.
On these trips we met many artists, visited them in their homes and bought the works directly from them.  Several pieces we acquired through dealers and galleries but 90% of our collection was obtained directly from the artists.
On these trips we had an opportunity to explore and become acquainted with areas of the South that otherwise we would never have visited. These experiences have enriched our knowledge of the culture, hospitality and the creativity of the untrained artists of the Southern region of the US.
